What ShockWave treats well
ShockWave is at its strongest on chronic tendon problems — the ones that have not settled with rest, medication or ordinary physiotherapy. Typical course: 4–6 sessions.
What ShockWave is not
- It is not instant. Tendon remodelling takes weeks. Most patients notice change after two or three sessions, not after the first.
- It is not for everything. Acute inflammation, fresh tears and certain medical conditions are better treated another way — sometimes with gentler myofascial work instead.

ShockWave therapy — common questions
There is a firm tapping sensation during treatment and the area can feel tender for a day afterwards, which is normal. Most patients find it very manageable, and the intensity is adjusted to your tolerance. No. You walk out and carry on with your day. You may be advised to avoid heavy loading of the treated tendon for 24 to 48 hours, and you will be given exercises to do between sessions, which matter a great deal to the final result.
